LEGAL SUPPORT, PARENTAL CONFLICT & MEDIATION INITIAL ASSESSMENT PROJECT

Tendring Families First Charity and its 11 schools have worked in partnership with Essex Law Clinic to provide our parents and families with free locally delivered Legal Advice. We know that many of our families are experiencing difficult relationship separations, which inevitably involve disagreements over child arrangements which can impact on the emotional wellbeing of the children caught up in the middle. With the removal of legal aid so many of our families are unable to get the essential advice they need to make the changes and to keep the child's needs at the centre of all decisions.

Essex Law Clinic provide outreach law clinics delivered in our schools whereby parents can book a 45-minute appointment and be seen by the law students with the supervising solicitor to be provided with a follow up full written letter of advice. This service is often a crucial lifeline for parents to be able to move forward and most importantly to reduce conflict between parents impacting on the children
Please contact [email protected] for details of future clinics and a referrals form.

Free Mediation Initial Assessment Meeting (MIAM) for Separating Parents

Tendring Families First is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Essex University Law Clinic and Kippax Family Mediation and a ground-breaking opportunity for our separating and divorcing parents to access FREE MEDIATION INITIAL ASSESSMENT MEETING ( MIAM) and if appropriate MEDIATION SESSIONS  to support child and financial arrangements following separation.

The aim of this pilot is to reduce conflict and impact on children , and finding non court resolutions for families.

Who Benefits?  Parents undergoing separation or divorce are often in conflict. Research shows that it is not the initial separation that causes sustained harm to children’s well-being but ongoing conflict between parents. The delays in Family Court to resolve disputes about child arrangements or finances have increased markedly over the last ten years. Mainly due to reductions in Legal Aid and following the pandemic.
This partnership project will aim to resolve parental conflict and agree child arrangements through the Mediation process with a potential reduction in parents needing to go to court and importantly a reduction on the emotional impact for the children.

Process : To determine suitability for mediation, each parent, separately, needs to attend for a FREE Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) normally the cost is about £120. The MIAMs takes about an hour and are with one parent and the mediator.
Following completion of the first MIAM, the second parent is invited to attend for their MIAM, ideally the next week. The MIAMs will be conducted either online or in person at the University of Essex Law Clinic.
If both parents attend for a MIAM and mediation is judged by the mediator to be appropriate, both parents need to agree they wish to go ahead. Each parent then needs to sign an “Agreement To Mediate” form..
If you would like to find our more or access this opportunity to have FREE MIAM meeting then please email : [email protected]

MY FAMILY WIZARD - CO-PARENTING APP
We are delighted to share that Tendring Families First is working with the only UK Court approved Co-Parenting App to offer an opportunity for an identified number of our parents to have FREE access for up to a year.

OurFamilyWizard is a Co-Parenting App used by thousands of families around the world to help alleviate the financial and emotional toll of high-conflict parenting.
When parents cannot communicate productively due to conflict, even seemingly simple discussions can end up costing families time and money.

Rather than interact directly, co-parents in high-conflict relationships often resort to communicating through solicitors and other family law practitioners. Every conversation—whether about scheduling changes, expenses, or schooling decisions—has the potential to cost hundreds of pounds and huge legal costs.

Conflict has far-reaching consequences and can deeply affect the strength of family ties. Research shows that it is not the initial separation that causes harm to the children but the ongoing conflict. Stability is hard to achieve for families with high-conflict relationships, and that can take a severe emotional toll on both parents and children.

Despite these challenges, parents can reduce conflict with help from specialised tools and strategies. By using the OurFamilyWizard® App, parents can coordinate schedules, share documents, submit parenting time modification requests, and document shared expenses and reimbursements, all without getting into heated text or phone debates with the other parent or having to involve solicitors  as intermediaries.

To support our objective of reducing the impact of conflict on our children and families, we are able to support a number of parents to access OurFamilyWizard® for FREE for one year. We are really keen evidence any positive impact of the App , and so parents will be asked to complete a short survey about their experience. The questions will focus on how OurFamilyWizard impacts your co-parenting, including topics such as communication, stress levels, your child’s wellbeing, and your relationship with your child.
