Partnering with Essex University Law Department

Tendring Families First Charity and its 12 schools have worked in partnership with Essex Law Clinic to provide our parents and families with free locally delivered Legal Advice. We know that many of our families are experiencing difficult relationship separations, which inevitably involve disagreements over child arrangements which can impact on the emotional wellbeing of the children caught up in the middle. With the removal of legal aid so many of our families are unable to get the essential advice they need to make the changes and to keep the child's needs at the centre of all decisions.

Essex Law Clinic provide outreach law clinics delivered in our schools whereby parents can book a 45-minute appointment and be seen by the law students with the supervising solicitor to be provided with a follow up full written letter of advice. This service is often a crucial lifeline for parents to be able to move forward and most importantly to reduce conflict between parents impacting on the children
Please check back for dates of the next Free Law Clinic.

Who Are We?
Tendring Families First is a local Charity providing early intervention and holistic support for children and families across one of the most deprived districts in the UK, Tendring. Children and families in Tendring are amongst the poorest in the country, and with the second highest rate of suicide Nationally, families are struggling with their emotional wellbeing and mental health and poverty.
Our support helps families struggling with multiple complex issues including poverty, family breakdown, isolation, mental health and behavioural challenges.

Who Do We Help?
Tendring Families First works with the Child and their Families along with other key stakeholders including schools and multi-agency professionals. We primarily focus on children aged 5-11 years, as there is now a substantial body of evidence to support the argument that meeting the needs of Families and children at the earliest opportunity will develop the resilience and self-efficacy for good outcomes.
The families we serve are struggling with a variety of challenges, including poverty, mental health issues, domestic violence, poor school performance, and more. Many feel alone and don’t know where to turn for help.
Our goal is to reach these vulnerable families as early as possible to help get them back on track. We provide non- judgement support and work collaboratively with parents, children, and other community stakeholders to address each family’s unique situation.
